Location
The Portswood Hotel is located right next door to it’s sister hotel, however has it’s own unique taste and décor. Similar to the Commodore it’s also has a nautical theme but offers a down to earth, comfortable base for you to explore the Cape. The structure was originally a convict station, but after a TOTAL revamp all traces of this dark history is gone and a luxury hotel offering excellent service and super accommodation remains.
Located 5 minutes walk from the V&A Waterfront, it offers you a great opportunity to enjoy all that the V&A has to offer. Not to mention it’s proximity to the most beautiful beaches and landmarks like, The Castle which replaced the original fort, built by Jan van Riebeeck and his men way back in 1679.
The Quarterdeck is the signature restaurant of the Portswood and is a section of the original Breakwater Prison known as the Good Conduct Ward. Hard to believe that what use to be a prison, is now producing some of the most amazing dishes and some glorious South African cuisine. This restaurant is now a National Monument serving the best Cape Malay dishes the Cape has to offer.
