Bookies not behind Bafana Bafana

Cape Town - Bookmakers have installed France as favourites to beat South Africa in their crunch final Group A game of the 2010 Soccer World Cup at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday.

Kick-off is at 16:00.

Leading SA bookmakers, GreatOdds, have France on offer at 13/10. Bafana can be backed at 19/10 with a draw available at 23/10.

France striker Thierry Henry is the 4/1 favourite to open the scoring, while Bafana's Katlego Mphela is the hosts' leading hope for a goal at 15/2.

Motlanthe urges support for Bafana Bafana

Johannesburg - The South African nation must continue supporting Bafana Bafana, deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe has urged ahead of their stiffest challenge.

"We need to rally behind Bafana Bafana in the same way we did prior to the start of the tournament and ensure that the spirit remains high," he said in a statement.

Motlanthe called on South Africans to stand behind the national team as they take on France in their final Group A match at Mangaung Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday afternoon.

Parreira has faith in Bafana Bafana

Bloemfontein - Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira will throw caution to the wind and go for broke when Bafana Bafana play France in their final Group A match at the Free State Stadium on Tuesday.

The Bafana Bafana mentor revealed that he will make five changes to the squad that lost 3-0 to Uruguay last week, but kept his cards close to the chest, refusing to even hint who are the changes, explaining that the changes will only be made public tomorrow as he still wanted to discuss them with his players first.

French squad stop strike

Knysna - The French Soccer World Cup squad resumed training on Monday, according to an AFP photographer, a day after they went on strike over the expulsion of striker Nicolas Anelka.

The 21-man squad jogged round the pitch while embattled coach Raymond Domenech chatted with his coaching staff.

On Sunday, amid dramatic scenes, the squad had refused to go through with a public training session and forced Domenech to read out a statement by them.

Giant Vuvuzela Silenced

Cape Town - Authorities in World Cup host city Cape Town have put a sock into plans to honk a 37-metre-long vuvuzela over fears its sound could trigger traffic chaos, a report said on Sunday.

The monster instrument, located on an unfinished flyover close to the city's Waterfront shopping area, is said to be the world's biggest trumpet and would have to be powered by the horn of a giant truck.

But the Sunday Times reported that officials fear the deafening racket could cause mayhem on the roads below.
