South African Sailing Membership

VERY IMPORTANT INFO ....
A sailor sailing in a regatta has to be a member of a yacht club affiliated to and in good standing with SAS   *SAS no longer grant temporary memberships.*  Temporary Club Memberships (with SAS fees paid via the club) will not qualify you to partake in a Provincial or National Regattas.

PLEASE obtain your SAS cards from your Clubs prior to Registration of the events, failing which please provide a letter from your Club confirming your membership.

Hobie Tiger for Olympics

The IHCA has put forward to the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) the recommendation that the Hobie Tiger be considered for the 2012 Olympics. ISAF has now agreed to put this on their May Meeting Agenda for discussion.

 

Mykonos Offshore Race

This weekend saw the biggest fleet in the history of the Mykonos Offshore Race from Cape Town to Langebaan. With 80 yachts crossing the start line from Cape Town in good conditions, winds of 22-25 knots in Table Bay.  A spectacle that will remain in my mind with 80 keel boats with their spinnakers up.

Hobie Cape Point Challenge

This weekend saw the 15th Cape Point Challenge,  with almost 60 boats entered it was a great success.  Winds varying from 30knots to 5 knots in big swells off Smitswinkel bay made for a hard sailed event.  Well done to Matthew Whitehead and Caleen for their oustanding performance.  Overall winner went to Jimie Cairns on a Hobie 14.  An exceptional win for Jimie, WELL DONE!  Cape Point Challenge this year saw the biggest fleet of Hobie Tigers on the water since the

Hobie Cat Courses

Drum Africa recently conducted an advanced and beginners sailing course in Walvis Bay, Namibia. We would like to thank all involved in arranging the Hobie 16's for use in the courses as well as the people involved in making sure that all ran smoothly. I certainly had a good time and would like to thank Peter Davidson for his input into Hobie sailing and his endless amount of enthusiasm for the sport and making sure that all sailors who took part had a good time. I hope to see you all in Namibia soon.
