Monaco Royals Party in Durban

Durban – Newlyweds Prince Albert II of Monaco and his South African bride held a glamorous party at Durban’s The Oyster Box hotel for friends and family who were unable to attend the wedding in Monaco on July 2.

Security was beefed up for the list of rich, famous and influencial guests at the exclusive event.

A large group of local as well as foreign media tried to get a shot of the many celebrities at the party.

Record turnout for surfski world cup

The Dunlop Surfski World Cup, taking place in Durban on 26 June, set a world record when 330 entries were received by close of normal entries on 10 June, making it the biggest international surfski event in the world.

The deluge of last-minute entries pushed the number of athletes taking part past the 296 world record set at last year's event, and late entries are now being taken.

Good weather on the wild coast at the moment is producing good predations and sightings.  Whale activity has been particulary good.  Water visibility is not the best at present but fair for diving.  Reports are that most of the action is happening between Port St. Johns and Mboyti.  Large bait balls have occured with all the predators involved in the action.  Most of the activity is not far offshore at present.

Sardines hit Margate

Durban - A shoal of sardines descended on Margate on Wednesday, the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks board said.

About 1 000 people were on the beach to see them, head of operations Mike Anderson-Reade said.

"People are having lots of fun.”

More sardines were expected at Pumula Beach on Thursday.

The annual sardine run is one of Durban's most popular events as families gather on various beachfronts in June and July waiting for the fish to reach the shore.
